Alma N Garza-PIAlma is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology & Anthropology at the University of Texas at Arlington. She investigates how university organizational characteristics shape the upwardly mobile trajectories of Hispanic college students from working-class backgrounds. In a separate, yet related research stream, Garza assesses how differentially advantaged parents leverage available resources to broaden academic opportunities for their children and ensure their well-being. Both projects further understandings of how disparate academic contexts contribute to social class and racial-ethnic disparities in education.
